7/25/2023 0 Comments Dragonian palace okami ps2![]() Admittedly, there are a couple of boss battles near the end of the game that are great fun, but the time spent getting there from beating Orochi the first time just feels too much like hard work. ![]() It’s a shame because I loved the first part of the game, but by the end I just wanted it to be over. What starts as sweet, eventually becomes sickly. Areas such as Sasa Sanctuary, which were a pleasure to encounter the first time, lose their appeal the second and third time and then when you get the to Dragon Palace and see that it’s a carbon copy, you can’t help feel disappointed.įor me, the game is too long. As the game moves forward, whole boss fights are repeated exactly, multiple times.Įnvironments are also recycled, and if that wasn’t bad enough, there is a lot of backtracking. There are new monsters too, but instead of cheeky imps you now face an onslaught of ever more gimmicky and recycled enemies such as ‘fire wheel’, ‘ice wheel’ and ‘grass wheel’. What was previously a labour of love, returning colour to the land, now becomes a repetitive chore. New areas are now available to explore, however they are also cursed, leaving you to question what was the point of your previous endeavours. In truth, your adventure is now over and the hard work begins. After beating the main antagonist, you are told that his spirit has moved elsewhere and that your adventure is only just beginning. The world is populated by weird and wonderful characters also who are often just as charming. I sit back and watch as a tiny sparrow nibbles at the seeds I have just fed it and I feel a warm glow of emotion. Another, is the ability to feed the animals encountered in the world. The game is full of charming features such as this. Most of the enemies encountered in the early stages are cheeky imps that will smack their bums at you if you take too much time attacking them. There are primary and secondary weapon slots and three weapon types to choose from, each handling differently depending on the slot. The combat is fast-paced and engaging, with a mix of close-up attacks and brush-techniques. From the blooming of trees to the conjuring of the sun, you are able to augment and enhance the beauty of the game. ![]() As the plot unfolds, you unlock different brush techniques that allow you to interact with the world. As god-turned-wolf you are tasked with lifting a curse from the land, restoring the colour and beauty of both town and countryside.Įvery single frame of the game looks like a water-colour painting. Coincidentally, this is the aim of the game. Part one – LoveĮvery once in a while, a game comes along that lifts your mood and brings colour into your life. As such, I’ve decided to split this post into two parts. The first third is exceedingly fun and a feast for the eyes, but the later stages of the game leave a bad taste in my mouth. This is a game that I am in two minds about. The dialogue is sweet and charming, although it can be long-winded and, at times, unnecessary. It’s combat is fluid and original, and yet it becomes repetitive and monotonous. Okami is a stunningly beautiful game, but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. ![]()
